The Houghton Energy Efficiency Team (HEET) is a community-led effort promoting affordable, sustainable, and community-driven energy solutions across Houghton County and surrounding areas in Michigan. The initiative seeks to connect residents and businesses with available local resources to reduce energy consumption and help community members save money on their utility bills.
HEET formed to help address local energy issues for its residents, as well as help Houghton County compete for the Georgetown University Energy Prize. Bringing together a diverse group of citizens, HEET led the development of the Houghton County Energy Plan in the fall of 2014 with the following vision:
Houghton County will be a model for rural communities in creating an affordable, sustainable, and community-driven energy landscape to support a vibrant regional economy and a high quality of life for all its members
As part of the plan, HEET is working with community members to achieve the goals outlined in the Plan.
